Micellar Water for acne-prone skin

Eucerin DERMOPURE Micellar Water is a refreshing solution with APG Complex: an effective yet extra-mild make-up remover, cleanser and toner.

Alcohol-free, it gently but effectively removes all water-soluble eye and face make-up without irritating or disrupting skin’s natural moisture barrier. Quick and convenient to use, it helps prepare your skin for your topical acne treatment product or moisturiser and has been tested on, and proven to be compatible with, sensitive skin and eyes. Skin feels clean and soothed, is noticeably soft and supple and is well prepared for care products.

The Micellar Water is suitable for use alongside medical acne treatments and during pregnancy.

Clinical and dermatological studies prove very good tolerability and efficacy on blemish-prone skin. Suitable for sensitive skin.

Main findings

The product was tested in controlled usage studies amongst females aged 18 to 75. The sample included volunteers with sensitive skin. The following results were recorded:

How to use

Instructions

Use in the morning and evening
Apply to a cotton wool pad and gently wipe over the eyes, face and décolleté
Use a new cotton pad for each application
Repeat until the pad is clean
Do not rinse
Follow with the appropriate care product. Be sure to use one with a sun protection factor in the day time.

Recommendations for your daily skincare routine

Cleanse and tone

Cleanse skin in the morning and evening:

am: to remove the sebum and dead skin cells that have accumulated overnight
pm: to remove make-up and free skin from the day’s dirt

Use gentle cleansing products such as Eucerin DERMOPURE Cleansing Gel with lukewarm water and follow with an appropriate toner or, for a quick and convenient solution, use Eucerin DERMOPURE Micellar Water. You may also benefit from using a scrub once a week to unclog pores and refine skin texture.

We do not recommend using an alcohol-based toner and the scrub alongside acne medication as it can make skin more sensitive. If you like the refreshing feel of a toner, try the alcohol-free Eucerin DERMOPURE Micellar Water instead.

Care

The care product you use depends on the severity of your acne and on the type of treatment you are undergoing.

If you are using medical treatment for acne, Eucerin DERMOPURE Adjunctive Soothing Cream helps to alleviate some of the symptoms such as intense dryness. It should be applied five minutes after your medication so the treatment can absorb fully.

If you have mild to moderate acne, but are not undergoing medical acne treatment, use a soothing and mattifying moisturiser such as Eucerin DERMOPURE Mattifying Fluid in the morning and evening.

For clearer and smoother-looking skin over time, you may also like to incorporate our skin renewal treatment into your routine. It is suitable for all blemish-prone skin that is not undergoing medical acne treatment and should be used once a day only − ideally in the evening. You can use it before the mattifying fluid or on its own.

Sun protection

Sun protection is an important step in your morning routine. Blemishes can cause pigmentation issues if over-exposed to the sun, and acne medications can make blemish-prone skin even more sensitive to UV rays. Eucerin Sun Gel-Creme Oil Control Dry Touch SPF30 and SPF50+ offers the levels of protection that your skin needs and should be applied before your cover-up and make-up. If you’re applying sun protection after a topical acne treatment wait five minutes to allow the treatment to fully absorb.

Concealer and make-up

Cover blemishes and even out skin tone with foundation and/or a concealer. Choose products that are non-comedogenic (i.e. that will not block pores) and, ideally, ones that contain ingredients that work to improve the condition of blemish-prone skin. Be sure to remove all make-up before you go to bed.

APG Complex (short for Alkylpolyglucoside) is an extra mild cleanser. The `G` stands for Glucoside, which is a nature-derived surfactant. Surfactants are the active ingredients in cleansers that enable them to clean the skin by lifting and removing impurities. There are several different types of surfactant widely used in skin cleaning products. Anionic (negatively charged) surfactants are often used because of their great foaming properties, but Glucoside (which is non-ionic, with no charge) is proven to be particularly gentle on the skin.

Is Eucerin DERMOPURE Micellar Water suitable for removing eye make-up?

Yes. It has been clinically and opthalmologically tested and proven to be compatible with the sensitive skin around your eyes as well as with the eyes themselves. The eye contour area is particularly delicate and sensitive with a different pH level to facial skin. Eucerin DERMOPURE Micellar Water respects this difference and has been formulated to pH 7.4 - the optimum pH for the eye area.

Eucerin DERMOPURE Micellar Water will remove all water soluble eye make-up. For the effective removal of waterproof make-up, we recommend Eucerin DermatoClean Waterproof Eye Make-up Remover.
Do I really need to cleanse my skin in the morning and the evening?

Yes. Your skin works hard at renewing itself over night so, when you cleanse in the morning, you are removing sebum (the oily substance that your skin produces naturally to stop it drying out). At the end of the day you need to remove sebum, sweat and any make-up that you may have been wearing. Cleansing your skin also ensures that it is able to absorb the active ingredients in your care products.
What does Micellar mean?

Micelles are microscopic, spherical aggregates of surfactant molecules. Each surfactant molecule has a hydrophilic (water-loving) head that is attracted to water molecules and a hydrophobic (water-hating) tail that repels water and simultaneously attaches itself to the oil and grease in dirt. These opposing forces loosen dirt and suspend it in the water which is wiped away on the cotton pad. Micellar cleansers are used without water and are especially suitable for sensitive skin.
When should I use the DERMOPURE Micellar Water and when should I use Eucerin DERMOPURE Toner?

Micellar water is a cleanser, toner and make-up remover all in one intended for use when you need a quick and convenient cleansing solution. Toner is applied after using a dedicated cleanser such as Eucerin DERMOPURE Cleansing Gel and prepares skin for moisturiser and other care products.

Eucerin DERMOPURE Toner is particularly suitable for oily and blemish-prone skin as it feels refreshing but, as it contains alcohol, we do not recommend that you use it during medical acne-treatment. If you are undergoing medical acne treatment and enjoy using a toner, then use Eucerin DERMOPURE Micellar Water to tone your skin after cleansing thoroughly with Eucerin DERMOPURE Cleansing Gel instead.
Does this product work against maskne (mask-induced blemishes)?

Maskne, or mascne as it’s also known, is caused by excessive heat, friction and/or pressure to the areas of your face that come into contact with your mask, and subsequently cause blemishes.

This Eucerin product is designed to reduce blemishes a gentle yet effective way.
