Product Info

Anti-age sunscreen lotion for the body that protects from photoaging

UV light is the main cause of sun-induced skin damage, but high-energy visible (HEVIS) light can also induce free radicals that cause further stress to skin.

Eucerin Sun Lotion Extra Light Photoaging Control SPF 30 is a sunscreen lotion for the body suitable for all skin types, including sensitive skin. The Advanced Spectral Technology combines broadband and photostable UVA/UVB filters1 for high UV protection with Licochalcone A to neutralize free radicals caused by UV and HEVIS light.

The sunscreen lotion SPF 30 also includes Glycyrrhetinic Acid which supports skin’s own DNA repair mechanism and short- and long-chained Hyaluronic Acid to visibly reduce signs of aging on the neck, décolleté, arms and shoulders.

The extra-light lotion absorbs immediately and leaves skin looking more even and feeling fresher. It is also water-resistant and contains Eucerin’s ‘Anti-Stain After Wash`* technology.

Eucerin Sun Lotion Extra Light Photoaging Control SPF 30 is clinically and dermatologically proven to be suitable for sensitive skin.

* Helps to reduce he intensity of sunscreen stains after washing.

(1) Meeting the high standards for UVA and UVB protection defined by Cosmetics Europe. The levels of UVA protection are higher than the EU recommendation.

Clinical and dermatological studies

How to use

Three steps to optimal sun protection

1. Select the right product

Choose a product that offers the right level of protection for your skin. It should protect against UVA and UVB rays and offer HEVIS light defense. It should also be suitable for your skin type and condition.

2. Use the right amount

It’s important to use sufficient product and to reapply it at regular intervals.
You can use your palm to measure how much. We recommend a thick line of sunscreen (stretching from the tip of your middle finger to your wrist) for each area (1-11) on the diagram:

  • 1. Face and neck
  • 2 & 3. Both arms
  • 4. Chest
  • 5.  Stomach
  • 6 & 7. The top of your legs (front and back)
  • 8 & 9. The bottom of your legs (front and back) plus your feet
  • 10. Shoulders and upper back
  • 11. Lower back

You’ll need an amount about the size of a golf ball to cover your body. To protect the sensitive skin on your face and neck (area 1) we recommend you use one of our facial sun protection products.

3. Apply thoroughly

Ensure that all exposed areas get the protection they need. Some parts are easy to miss. Don’t forget the back and shoulders as well as your hands and feet, the backs of the arms and the areas at the edges of swimwear.

Eucerin research4 indicates that, on average, 14% of the back of the female body and 22% of the back of the male body is regularly exposed to the sun’s rays without any protection whatsoever.

  • Do not stay too long in the sun, even while using a sunscreen product
  • Over-exposure to the sun is a serious health threat
  • Keep babies and young children out of direct sunlight
  • Avoid contact with eyes
  • Allow product to absorb completely, and avoid direct contact with textiles and hard surfaces to prevent staining

Ingredients

How it works

It’s not just UV rays that can damage skin. High-energy visible (HEVIS) light generates free radicals and causes photoaging (premature skin aging caused by the sun). Eucerin Sun Lotion Extra Light Photoaging Control SPF 50+ and SPF 30 offer Advanced Spectral Technology that goes beyond UV to protect skin from the negative effects of HEVIS light too. The formulas support skin’s own DNA repair mechanism, and, with Hyaluronic Acid, they help to prevent photoaging and visibly reduce signs of skin aging. They also include Eucerin’s Anti-Stain After Wash* technology.

Advanced Spectral Technology
Superior broadband and photostable UVA/UVB filters1 are combined with Licochalcone A to neutralize free radicals caused by UVA and HEVIS light.

DNA protection
The innovative Photoaging Control formula also includes Glycyrrhetinic Acid which supports skin’s own DNA repair mechanism.

Hyaluronic Acid
Eucerin’s uses two types of Hyaluronic Acid to deliver intense moisturization and visible reduce the signs of skin aging.

Anti-Stain After Wash*
The UV filters in sunscreens can leave yellow stains on clothes that are intensified, rather than removed, by washing. Eucerin’s `Anti-Stain After Wash`* technology contains an anti-redeposition agent (that prevents so much of the filter from binding with the fabric) and a complexing agent (that binds with the ions in water so they are less able to intensify stains during the washing process). It helps to reduce the intensity of sunscreen stains after washing.

FAQ (5)

  • What is photoaging?

Photoaging is the name given to premature skin aging caused by the sun. An estimated 90% of premature skin aging is thought to be caused by the sun’s rays.3

    (3) Ramos-e-Silva et al., ‘Anti-aging cosmetics: Facts and controversies’. Clin Dermatol. 2013 Nov-Dec; 31(6): 750-8.

  • How do I know which SPF to use?

Sunscreens are available in four different levels of protection: low (factor 6 to 10), medium (15 to 25), high (30 to 50) and very high (50+). The higher the protection factor the better your skin is protected, but it’s important to apply the product thoroughly (be careful not to miss any bits) and to reapply it generously every two hours.

  • What is the difference between UVA and UVB rays?

UVA rays penetrate the deeper layers of skin. They stimulate the production of free radicals in the skin which cause oxidative stress and can lead to indirect DNA damage (where the free radicals modify cellular DNA over time). UVA rays are most commonly associated with photoaging (premature skin aging caused by the sun). They can also trigger sun allergies such as Polymorphous Light Eruption (PLE). UVB rays can also provoke allergies, but to a lesser degree.

UVB rays provide the energy your skin needs to make Vitamin D and stimulate the production of melanin which is responsible for tanning. They don’t travel as deeply as UVA rays, penetrating only the outermost layers of skin, but they cause more immediate damage such as sunburn. UVB rays are directly absorbed by cellular DNA and can lead to skin diseases such as actinic keratosis and skin cancer.

Both types of UV can induce hyperpigmentation and may contribute to conditions such as sun spots (also known as age spots) and melasma.

  • What is high-energy visible light and why does my skin need to be protected from it?

The sunlight spectrum consists of UV, visible and infrared light. Visible sunlight can be detected by the human eye, while the others remain invisible. Part of this visible spectrum has a high energy level and is known as high-energy visible light. It is also referred to as HEVIS light, HEV Light, HEVL and sometimes ‘blue light’ or ‘blue violet light’

Like UVA rays, HEVIS light penetrates the deeper layers of skin (the dermis) and can generate free radicals. These free radicals are one of the main causes of photoaging
(premature skin aging caused by the sun). They interfere with skin cells and break down the collagen and elastin that gives our skin its plump, youthful appearance. HEVIS light has also been linked to uneven skin pigmentation and melasma.

Many modern sunscreens offer effective protection against UVA and UVB rays, but we recommend that you look out for products that also defend against the negative effects of HEVIS light. These products will give your skin reliable protection from photoaging and, in the long run, can also help to combat visible signs of skin aging.

  • What is the ‘Anti-Stain After Wash’* technology and how does it work?

The Eucerin ‘Anti-Stain After Wash’ technology helps to reduce the intensity of sunscreen stains after washing. The yellow stains that appear on clothes, especially cottons, after using sunscreen products are caused by the UV filters.

The washing process can make these stains worse rather than remove them: the iron and copper ions in water, when combined with very hot water and bleaching agents, can actually bind-in and intensify the stains.

Eucerin’s ‘Anti-Stain After Wash’ technology works in two ways. Firstly, it contains a protective shield that prevents so much of the filter from binding with the fabric in the first place. Secondly, it contains a complexing agent that binds with the ions in water so they are less able to intensify stains when clothes are washed.
